We were delighted to welcome Jim McColl of Beechgrove Gardens to officially open our city centre garden, Horners Plot yesterday.
To mark the occasion Jim planted a Tayberry Bush into a large pot whilst saying a few words on what gardening means to him. He said he thought it was something which brings people together and addresses isolation and loneliness, which struck a chord with us.
Susan Scott PLUS manager said;
“We waited a while to get someone with similar values as us to open our garden and struck it lucky with Jim. He is a very sociable man, not only a great gardener but someone who cares deeply about our communities and the wellbeing of its citizens.”
Horner’s Plot is situated on Horner’s Lane and offers volunteering throughout the week and on Saturdays to people recovering from mental distress and experiencing disadvantage. The garden is on loan from Alistair Grant a local businessman.
